Beyond the ordinary
Our journey began with a purpose. During her doctoral research, Dr. Louise E. Vincent discovered that African American students were reading below the levels of many of their peers. Inspired to create change, she founded Black Girls Read and Rise Foundation to expand literacy opportunities, empower young readers, and help every child build a brighter future. We're honored to have you as part of our story.

About Our Founder
Black Girls Read and Rise Foundation was born from a passion for education, research, and a belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. Founded by Dr. Louise E. Vincent, a researcher, and advocate for educational equity, the organization is rooted in both professional expertise and a deep commitment to strengthening communities through literacy.
While completing her doctoral dissertation at Southern University and A&M College, Dr. Vincent examined the relationship between school discipline and graduation outcomes. During her research, she also uncovered a troubling reality: African American students consistently demonstrated lower reading proficiency than many of their peers. She recognized that behind the statistics were real children whose futures could be transformed through greater access to books, literacy support, and encouragement.
That discovery became a call to action. Rather than allowing the research to remain on paper, Dr. Vincent founded Black Girls Read and Rise Foundation to help close literacy gaps by inspiring a love of reading, expanding access to educational resources, and creating opportunities for children to grow into confident readers and future leaders.
Today, the Foundation partners with families, schools, childcare centers, and community organizations to promote literacy, educational achievement, and lifelong learning. Every program is guided by one simple belief: when children learn to read with confidence, they gain the power to rise, lead, and create brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
